Vincent's new collaboration with David Byrne called 'Who' and I think there is a whole album coming out. I like that it is entirely something different to listen to. The fact that there are different versions of Vows with different songs on them doesn't help matters ddddddd. Kimbra: I have been listening to a lot indie music lately. I'd need some time before I can figure out how I'd rank her albums because they are all brilliant for different reasons.

This works to Kimbra's detriment because while hers is a good album, Monae's snappy flow and completely unique sound make hers an absolutely fantastic one. I don't know if it's the orchestral backing or a vocal pattern or just a random note that set it off, but something about 'Vows' reminds me of Janelle Monae's 'The ArchAndroid'-a record of a much different feather. Something began distracting me partway through the album though, and I finally managed to put my finger on it. Her use of instrumentals amps it up to another level-they sure do have a lot of really fun drums/maracas/tinkly chimes in New Zealand. It's tough to convince with an album of both happy and sad love songs, but Kimbra does it with finesse so smooth you barely notice her vocal transition from songbird trill to Bjork-like sorrows. Kimbra's willingness to experiment with that voice probably is the most successful part of 'Vows.' 'Something In The Way You Are' had me on a mental journey through a twinkly tropical rainforest, while 'Old Flame' takes a right turn to a much harder place. And according to my friend Zach, she totally stole the show at their Lincoln Hall performance, so maybe Gotye should be glad to let her go. That being said, the New Zealand songstress has a gorgeous, resonating voice that sticks with you long after a listen through her debut full-length album, 'Vows.' Tracks like the thumpingly catchy 'Settle Down' should have great radio success, so any plays she's earning during her jump from Gotye's coattails are well deserved.

She's got a ready-made fan base built in after her turn on Gotye's winter hit, 'Somebody That I Used To Know.' Of course, she couldn't have know at the time that the tune would make it big-she just knows how to place her bets.
